Any idea what is going on with these tires or if it’s cause for concern? Started a few weeks ago. Both tires are inflated to manufacturers spec and this wear is only on the back tire. They are Pilot Power 2ct tires with about 8k on them and around a year old.

None at all actually just a shit ton of long highway rides. I ride 90 miles each way to work pretty much daily. If it’s not raining or crazy hot I almost always take the bike

I dunno how to answer your question, but my familiarity with motorcycle forums has informed me that I should make the same comment on any image of a motorcycle tyre that is posted:

HAH! LOOK AT YOUR “CHICKEN STRIPS”! LEARN TO RIDE NOOB!

I wish you all the beast in your endeavors, I hope you find a solution to your problem, and please enjoy your SV, as I understand it to be an excellent bike

How squared off are they? With 8k miles I think they’d be close to done.

Inflated to the bike spec, or max inflation pressure per the tire sidewall? Should be inflated to the bike specification (unless that is higher than the tire max).

Looks like maybe you do a lot of straight line riding on a rough surface to me. Is there a section of road that was recently resurfaced that you ride regularly?

It kind of looks like small-scale chevroning. With aircraft tires (probably fairly close to sport bike tires) this is due to operations on grooved concrete runways.

Are the chain tensioner adjustments equal on both sides of the rear axle? Maybe the axle is cocked and / or not in line with the front tire

Yea it’s not pleasant. I used to have an apartment 9 miles from work but I lost it to a dispute with the landlord and moved back in with my parents for a few months while me and my girlfriend find an apartment together

I don’t think the strips are that bad lol. I could lean it farther but there aren’t many roads in NJ that I’m comfortable doing that on. A lot of sugar sand/debris/uneven pavement in the corners here. And your understanding is correct the SV is a fantastic bike

My bad I meant bike spec. And thinking about it now I spend a lot of time on the turnpike which is rough cement instead of asphalt

I thought I lined it up pretty good when I swapped sprockets and the chain but I’ll check again this weekend

Gotcha. At least it’s short term. I once had a 51 mile each way commute, and I haaaaaaated it.

They’ve got a little bit of a flat spot to them but still plenty of tread on them

I thought the same originally but they are inflated to bike spec so idk why they would show up

Yea losing 2-3 hours a day to a mind numbing nearly straight line drive sucks. Just temporary though. Me and the woman should be moving closer at the end of the month

Doesn’t look like anything terminal, beyond the fact that you need to find a road with some turns on it to ride more. Probably will need replaced soon with those miles anyways. You may want to look into a less-sporty and more touring-oriented tire for the next one.

My guess would be that rough cement maybe combined with a little bit of cross wind or road camber could do it. I’m not a biker so can’t comment on whether or not that would be a concern though.

If the cement is fairly fresh it could have a thin slippery layer on it from curing that would cause a tiny amount of tire slip on the rear but not the front. Once on roller blades I learned the hard way that freshly cured cement has absolutely no grip on rubber wheels.
